Ranbir Confesses ” I am a Gambler “

Written on March 5th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

a4a94 ranbirsonam Ranbir Confesses I am a Gambler He was all over the place when he made his debut with Saawariya. This was followed up with his Adonis act in his next film Bachna Ae Haseeno, in which he got to romance not one, not two, but three hot looking women! If that was something that really made you stand up and take notice, then, the current issue of the world famous magazine ‘GQ’ will surely have you asking for more.

This issue, besides having a super-glorious Ranbir on the cover, also has his supercool interview, in which he talks about (read ‘CONFESSES’) that he has done that druggie thing.

He, in his own admission, says “There was marijuana, there was alcohol, I started smoking cigarettes”. Wait…there’s more! He also revealed that he must have been around 15 years old, when he lost his virginity.

This is definitely one of the most ‘revealing’ interviews of Ranbir Kapoor and makes quite an interesting read.

Ayesha Takia and Farhan Azmi

b7fba ayeshafarhan Ayesha Takia and Farhan AzmiThe cute, bubbly and vivacious actress Ayesha Takia broke a million hearts as she tied the knot with long time boyfriend and restaurateur Farhan Azmi.

The nikaah ceremony took place on Sunday, March 1, at Farhan’s Colaba restaurant and was attended by only close family and friends.

However, a grand reception was held at the CCI lawns yesterday (March 2) night and needless to say Bollywood made its presence felt in large numbers.

Among the Bollywood bigwigs who made it to wish the couple were Abhishek & Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay & Manyata Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Raj Babbar, Dino Morea, Bharat Shah, Imtiaz Ali and Nagesh Kukunoor.

Given the fact that the groom’s father Abu Azmi is an active politician, a number of political heavyweight were also present on this occasion.

Sachin Tendulkar is Mugdha’s Ideal Man

Written on March 5th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

b7fba mughda Sachin Tendulkar is Mugdhas Ideal ManFor Mugdha Godse it was meant to be a nice evening out with friends at Samira boat show pre-launch party where she could just chill out, have fun and spend some nice time away from the hustle bustle of sets and film fraternity.

After all, it was going to be some busy months ahead, what with shooting of Rohit Shetty directed All The Best (tentative title) and Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail coming together almost simultaneously.

Moreover, she knew that her ‘ideal man’ Sachin Tendulkar would be there at the party so she made sure that she joins the fun. She wasn’t disappointed as in this late evening party last week, she actually found herself face to face with Sachin Tendulkar and ended up spending some quality time with him.

“He is a legend and I am not the first or the last person to be saying that.

No wonder, when you actually come face to face with such a personality, you are bound to be excited and feel blessed. The same happened to me when I met Sachin”, says Mugdha who was so thrilled about her meet with Sachin that as a star struck fan, she impromptu had her picture clicked with him.

Both being Maharashtrians worked in her favor as well. “Ya, we ended up chatting in Marathi and it was fun. It’s the mother tongue of both of us and we hit off quite well. He is someone who truly stands as my ‘ideal man’. Yes, he is quite reserved & proper and doesn’t go beyond ‘Hi-Hello’ in his first few meetings with people. So it was me who was more talkative.”

She didn’t mind it much though. “Anjali is quite an extrovert and since she was around as well, I was very comfortable striking off a conversation. In fact I was with her for an even longer duration”, details Mugdha.

Apparently, Anjali is a big time movie buff and is said to be a regular Friday moviegoer. She had seen Fashion so the conversation veered towards the movie and Mugdha’s performance.

“But from the corner of my eye, I wanted to assess whether Sachin had seen the film or not! Next time when I meet him, I think I will directly ask him the question”, quips Mugdha who has been recognized for her performance in Fashion by being nominated in almost all award functions this year.

Not many are aware that Mugdha and Sachin have shared screen space a few years back for a Pepsi commercial. While Sachin had played himself as a passenger, Mugdha was an airhostess.

“I will remind him about that as well. One never knows, maybe we may end up working together again”, continues Mugdha who has been smiling ever since her meet.

People Are Going Crazy Over Freida Pinto

b7fba irrfankhan People Are Going Crazy Over Freida PintoIrrfan Khan The Slumdog Millionaire (SM) producers – Fox-Searchlight now want to make a film with Irrfan in the lead.

Says Irrfan, “The studio head Peter Rice came to me and said he’d now like to make a film with me in the lead. Do you know Peter Rice is responsible for the film’s release? Otherwise it was going straight into a DVD release.

Danny Boyle was in a panic mode and was ready to take the DVD offer. But the makers decided to take the film to Toronto and show it to Fox-Searchlight. They chased me all over the world to get some lines re-done, took the film to Toronto. Luckily, Fox- Searchlight loved SM.”

Irrfan can’t stop marveling at what is happening to the film. “Look at destiny. Look at the kids! People are going mad over Freida Pinto. The photographers won’t leave her in peace for even a second.

Freida has signed Woody Allen and Dev Patel has signed Manoj Shyamalan. We’re going to see much more Bollywood-Hollywood collaborations in future.”

Back in Mumbai, Irrfan Khan and Oscars-winner Resul Pookutty had to be whisked hurried out on a police van from Mumbai’s airport. “When we landed we had no idea what crowds were waiting for us until we were told it was difficult for us to step outside. We had leave in a police van.”

Recalling the Oscars experience Irrfan says, “We never doubted that Slumdog Millionaire would get the Oscars.

The minute we stepped on to the red carpet at the Kodak theatre they were shouting our names. The mood was, how could you not give this film the Oscars?

Our producers Fox -Searchlight were really anxious. They got the Best Film Oscar after 40 years. I think the kids in SM did the trick. They won over the global audiences’ hearts. We grown-up actors were the bonus.”

The fruits of the Slumdog Millionaire (SM) experience at the Oscars and global box-office are already ripening.

While Anil Kapoor seemed to be enjoying every second of his glamorous avtar on the red carpet, Irrfan says he’s very much ill-at-ease doing it. “I love going to film festivals. But not to these red-carpet thingies.”

b7fba resul big People Are Going Crazy Over Freida Pinto Recalling his touchdown at the Mumbai airport after the Oscars Irrfan says, “I felt like the bridegroom at a baraat. It was so moving. The reception I got at the Mumbai airport was equal to any Oscar.”

He recalls his association with Resul Pookutty who won the Oscar. “Resul and I started our careers at the same time. Resul kept working silently for a decade. He deserves this recognition. As for me I was pleasantly surprised to be recognized in LA as the actor from The Namesake and A Mighty Heart.”

In fact Irrfan has been selected by Forbes magazine as one of the 6 Bollywood faces that have made an impact in Hollywood.

“That was news to me, and very pleasant news at that. I’ve waited long for this recognition. I became a recognizable name abroad after The Namesake. But I wish it had happened after Warrior.

In the truest sense it changed my life. It came at a time when I was losing heart regarding the roles coming my way. I was thinking of changing professions. I was quite bored.

I became an actor to explore my emotions and go beyond the mundane, like Dilip Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah did. I wanted to experience something magical. Warrior gave me that chance.”

Sanjay Dutt-Abhishek Bachchan’s Amar Dosti

Written on March 5th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

The nexus couldn’t get any more emotional and intimate. The central character of the drama is that glamorous politician Amar Singh.

The location was the newly-inaugurated Kokila Behn hospital in Mumbai. And the guest stars were Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan, selfconfessed brothers deeply connected by their mutual love for the same man Amitabh Bachchan.

The bonds between the Bachchans and Sanjay Dutt just got stronger, thanks to their common attachment to Amar Singh.

On Monday when Amar Singh was admitted to hospital no one was really surprised to see Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan at the Kokila Behn hospital during the late afternoon period between 3pm and 6 pm visiting their favourite politician.

Says a source, “While Abhishek spent about two hours, Sanjay Dutt was with Amar Singhji much longer. Their mutual concern for the politician patient was very touching and genuine.”

When asked about his visit, Sanjay Dutt says, “Amar Singhji has been admitted for a full body check up.”

But other sources say there are some intricate tests being done which do not suggest a routine checkup.

Let’s hope Amar Singh is back on his feet very soon.

Hrithik Roshan’s Mother is Now Well

Hrithik Roshan could not attend the Filmfare award function as there was a bit of a health scare at his residence. The superstar’s mom fell ill on the evening when he was awarded best actor for ‘Jodhaa Akbar’.

‘She’s well now. Everything will be fine in time,’ Hrithik said Wednesday.

Hrithik also regrets missing out the award evening Saturday. ‘It (‘Jodhaa Akbar’) was a special film on many counts. It was my first historical and costume drama and I’m unlikely to do another of this for a long time. ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ was a radical departure from anything I’ve done so far. And I couldn’t have asked for a better culmination after two years of gruelling hard work.’

‘Gulaal’ Offers Fresh, Thought-Provoking Songs

Written on March 5th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

Film: ‘Gulaal’; Music Director: Piyush Mishra; Lyricist: Piyush Mishra; Singers: Rahul Ram, Shilpa Rao, Swanand Kirkire, Piyush Mishra, Rekha Bharadwaj, Aushim, Rating: ***

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s latest offering ‘Gulaal’ boasts of thought-provoking renditions. The songs are different, original and have substance. The album is a heady cocktail of diverse genres and innovations.

‘Aarambh’, a song soaked in the expression of revolution, sets the adrenalin pumping with its fast pace and hard hitting vocals by Rahul Ram. The musical arrangements are Indian to the core with the sounds of sitar, tabla, trumpets and bells dominating the number. This is not the kind of music you will hear every day.

The highlight of the next song ‘Aisi Sazaa’ is the deep and enchanting voice of Shilpa Rao. The composition touches a chord and stays with the listener for long. The use of thunder and rain add to the song’s mood. This poignant rendition is sure to create a niche for itself.

Rekha Bharadwaj is up next with ‘Beedo’, an energetic rustic song with the feel of a mujra. The song might not become a chartbuster but is surely worth listening to.

Next comes ‘Duniya’, which can be called a rare work in terms of treatment. Piyush Mishra takes over the vocals too in this number and does a good job with his baritone voice. It has a classical touch and is impressive.

‘Raat ke musafir’ gives us music that we haven’t heard in years. It is a haunting number that lets the singer’s voice take centre-stage. The song rides high on the powerful yet seductive vocals by Rahul Ram. ‘Raat…’ is what brilliant compositions are made of.

Like ‘Beedo’, ‘Ranaji’ too explores the folk genre and falls in the category of a mujra. But this one is contemporary and wacky. With unusual lyrics and some brilliant singing by Rekha Bhardwaj, the song will surely attract attention.

Up next is ‘Shehar’, the longest track of the album, which is categorised by lovely vocals, sparse music and a revolutionary mood. A good effort by Piyush Mishra yet again.

‘Yaara maula’ is a classic. Rahul Ram, Piyush Mishra and Aushim have gone behind the mike for the song that has a strong background score without using too many instruments. The number picks up tempo and string instruments are introduced at a later stage.

On the whole, the music of ‘Gulaal’ is thoughtful and a welcome break from remix numbers stuffed into most albums today. An experimental soundtrack, the composer deserves kudos for creating compositions different from the routine.
