I don’t know what it is about list-making that I find so satisfying, but pair it with drawing and it’s a strangely sublime combination. So I certainly love drawings of collections of things, and here Hwa Young Jung has drawn a series of decidedly English brands and products.

Hope, an animated short

Fernando Cintra created this short animated film as his final project at Vanarts. I found it a bit too saccharine for my tastes, but visually it’s quite gorgeous.

After one look at the website of CloudRaker, a digital branding agency based in Montreal, you know you’re in the presence of something ultra cool. Tumble Stool

e36e5 tumble stool Tumble Stool

Wrapped in foam, this stool can be rolled onto its various surfaces for different seating experiences. It’s not often you get a playful piece of furniture looking so simple (as in, not bright pink or stripes or what not), so I’d say it’s a wonderful choice for extra seating.

tumble playfully suggests to be flipped. Each position yields a different seating experience: flat, curved, inclined, and the amusing rocker. It is lightweight, durable and versatile. It can be lined-up as bench or scattered in different positions creating a continuously dynamic landscape. Hotel lobbies, gallery spaces, and resort pools are some of the public spaces that tumble can add color and vibrancy, but it is also whimsical enough for a child to roll around on at home.

Karan Johar Leaves Yash Raj for 80 Crores

Written on March 10th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

8255a karanjohar Karan Johar Leaves Yash Raj for 80 CroresHas filmmaker Karan Johar has fallen out with old pal, Aditya Chopra? Or is it just a business related new arrangement?

The director who always sold his films to the Yash Raj banner for distribution has decided to go outside and look for another distributor outside. Reports say that Karan’s next two films, ‘Wake Up Sid’ with Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma and Rensil D’Silva’s untitled next will be distributed by UTV at a cost of Rs 80 crore.

The rumours of the Karan thinking of doing business minus the Chopras have been doing the rounds for quite a while now.

Now it has been confirmed with UTV being the sole distributors of Dharma Productions’ next two films.

At the press conference held in a Mumbai star hotel on Monday 9th March evening the deal was formally announced but without revealing the money.

The media was told, this deal includes, theatrical, home video, overseas, satellite and all other new media and distribution rights excluding music, together for the two movies. The break up that our trade sources have revealed to us is as follows – Wake Up Sid amounting to Rs. 28 crore and Rensil D’Silva’s untitled next for Rs. 52 crores.

Speaking to us at the press conference, Karan Johar said, “It marks a new phase for Dharma Productions as we enter into an association with UTV. I am very impressed by their body of work and they have proved themselves repeatedly.

My both these films are not typical Bollywood films churned by our production house earlier and I am confident UTV will promote them perfectly just the way they have done last year with off beat subjects like Aamir, A Wednesday and Welcome To Sajjanpur.”

UTV CEO Ronnie Screwvala stated, “I have always been impressed by Karan Johar. He has a great vision and has his feet still firmly rooted on the ground despite such mega successes.

What I also like about him is that he is constantly keeping a tab of changing tastes of audiences. We are thrilled to start what we hope is the beginning of a long relationship with Dharma Productions.”

Dharma’s association with UTV has marked the end of its long standing distribution alliance with Yash Raj Films.

But Johar is quick to clarify, “Yash Raj has distributed my films in the past but now they have taken a conscious decision to distribute only their own films and I respect that. But my association with UTV should not be seen as a breakaway from Yash Raj. They are family and shall always be.”

Written on March 10th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

52e91 kareena1tid Salman Kareena Preity in a 80 Lakhs SongDebutante director Prem Soni is presently preparing to shoot a special song for his film Main Aur Mrs. Khanna with its lead stars Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Preity Zinta in Mumbai.

Unit sources claim a huge set is presently being erected for the song shoot the cost for which will run to Rs. 80 lakhs. This song will be shot between 20th to 25th March in a Mumbai studio.

Farah Khan who has become very selective about her choreography assignments after turning director and now mother especially, will be choreographing this special song. With this song the entire shooting of the film will be completed.

Sources further inform, “All those who have seen the rushes just can’t stop gushing about the film’s magnificent look and the chemistry shared between Salman and Kareena who were last paired in the romantic tragedy Kyon Ki directed Priyadarshan. Sohail and Preity who have very significant roles in the film too are outstanding in their roles.”

A joint co-production between Sohail Khan Productions and UTV Spot Boy, the film is all set for a 3rd July, 2009 release.

It tells the story about Samir and Raina who have a fairy tale marriage, Samir gets his dream job and they both have a great life… and everything they could ever want! Until one wrong decision leads to them parting ways, maybe forever!

Vikas Behl COO UTV Spot Boy tells us, “Main Aur Mrs Khanna is a beautifully weaved film with a simple story line. This is surly to strike the right chord with the audience like our other films. And with such a talented bunch of actors and team I am sure the film will garner the required accolades from the audience.”

Nobody Bothered Barbara Mori Here: Hrithik

Written on March 10th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

52e91 hrithik suzzane Nobody Bothered Barbara Mori Here: HrithikHrithik Roshan, just selected by Forbes among the half a dozen Bollywood actors who have a name in Hollywood, was delighted and surprised when he was recognized on the streets in the US while shooting for Kites.

“That was a change. It makes me feel good to see our films are crossing borders. At a bank in the US when you’re withdrawing money you are delighted to realize that the person on other end of the counter know you are.

Or salesgirls at shops…they recognize you and go, ‘Are you?….And when you tell them, they go, ‘Wow!’ …yeah it feels good.”

However Hrithik is not courting interntional success with his first English-language film Kites.

“I haven’t set any goals for myself as such. I just want to keep evolving as an actor and a person. That’s the only mission in my career. If Kites takes me international, I’ll be happy.”

Ironically Hrithik Roshan Kites co-star Barbara Mori came to Mumbai and went without being recognized.

Says Hrithik, “We knew it would be safe to get her down because she had come to Mumbai last year and attended a fashion show with my wife Susanne, right there in front of the cameras.

She was here for a week and went all over Mumbai without being recognized. Nobody bothered her. She walked the Fashion Street and no one bothered her. So we knew it was okay to get her over.”

Salman Khan Playing Games…

Written on March 10th, 2009 by shirazno shouts

52e91 salman3tid Salman Khan Playing Games...Salman Khan it seems is giving preferential treatment to his mega budget Veer over Boney Kapoor’s long in the making Wanted. There are widespread talks in the industry over Salman wanting his written and enacted historical Veer to release before his solo starrer Wanted.

Industry sources reveal, “Boney Kapoor is learnt to be facing tough times from his lead actor of Wanted, Salman Khan and the problem seems to centre on the film Veer, which is written by Salman and is being directed by Anil Sharma.

Salman seems to be taking more than a personal interest in Veer and is keen that this period movie be his next release. This is because Salman feels that Veer will break his streak of flops and give his career a fillip that it badly needs.

The Jaipur schedule of Veer could not be completed because of the collapse of portions of the Amer Fort where the shooting was taking place. Hence, Veer is a long way from being complete. But that has hardly deterred Salman who is now playing the catch me if you can game with Boney.

First he made him run around for dates for shooting and now he is making him run around for dubbing dates. As for Boney, despite having spent tons of money on giving the film a classy look, on par with any international film, has no other option but to wait and hope that Salman cooperates in getting Wanted Dead And Alive released.

After all, he would not want this film to have the same fate as his Shahid Kapur Kareena Kapoor starrer Milenge Milenge. Of course, one wishes for Salman’s sake that his move to push Veer ahead of Boney’s film pay off. He is not in exactly the best of places professionally.”
